Online retailer Public Fibre sells only sustainable brands, and is launching its Buy More Rubbish campaign on Black Friday. It will "sell" the top ten ocean pollutants as if they were premium products between 27 -30 November, and donate all proceeds to The Ocean Cleanup charity. The Ellen McCarthur Foundation and the World Economic Forum predict that by 2050, the amount of plastic (937m tons) will outweigh the amount of fish (895m tons) in the world's oceans.
The biggest pollutants include food wrappers, plastic bags, plastic bottles, lids, plastic cutlery, straws, glass bottles, aluminium cans, four-pack rings, tyres and disposable face masks. The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands which develops technology to remove plastic from oceans.
