The Coral Gardeners are building and protecting one of our most precious ecosystems
Located in Tahiti, French Polynesia, the Coral Gardeners are saving important ecosystems through education and coral reef restoration. They ”garden” the reefs by transplanting small coral cuttings onto degraded areas of reef. The coral fragments then grow, helping to recreate the reef habitats.
Almost 50% of the world’s coral reefs have been lost in the last 40 years due to climate change, water pollution, over-fishing and more. The coral gardeners, a reef restoration and conservation program (and inspiration to us here at public fibre) are hoping to change the tides. The Coral Gardeners are strengthening the reef against future damage, growing back the full reef ecosystem once again. And with 25% of marine life living in coral reefs, this is one precious ecosystem.
